Course Description

A major in International Development Studies prepares students to understand the challenges that developing nations face to achieve improved living conditions for their inhabitants. In our courses, we emphasize how development is shaped by the intersections of politics, economy, social and political power, and culture at global, national, and regional levels. Our majors acquire a critical understanding of environmental vulnerabilities and socio-economic inequalities in the developing world, grounded in an appreciation of global history

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this concentration, students will have met a number of learning objectives, including the ability to:

  • Define and understand central concepts of international development, including measurement of development, actors, theoretical approaches, and the history and trajectory of the field.
  • Gain a greater ability to apply knowledge and analysis to specific development contexts and cases in order to evaluate the strengths and limitations of theoretical approaches, programs, and projects.
  • Evaluate the merits of different approaches to international development on the basis of values at stake, including ethical, political, social, environmental, and economic ramifications.
  • Have a working understanding of the causes and implications of a range of global environmental challenges and of different forms of response.
  • Analyze the main problems related to diseases and health in international relations and development policy, as well as international efforts to control the spread of disease.

Course Description

The concentration in Accounting provides students a broad-based view of relevant accounting concepts.

Transportation & Logistics

Concentration Course Description

DKA’s online program introduces how economics, finance, global air components, maritime, radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology, reverse logistics, and ground transportation systems work together to support the global supply chain. You learn how to integrate planning, optimize monitoring, and enhance high-capacity delivery reliability using the latest software and methods.

Learning Outcomes

  • Individually analyze transportation, logistics, and supply chain management and identify the components of each from an operational perspective
  • Examine political, regulatory, and legal issues impacting the transportation industry
  • Explain the strengths and weaknesses of various forms of international transportation
  • Understand how transportation impacts the economy, public systems, national and local infrastructure, and the environment

Marketing Concentration

Course Description

Knowledge of professional sales is a valuable addition to the skill set of anyone in the marketing profession—adding another dimension to their understanding of customer behavior, persuasion techniques, and the ability to make a tangible difference on a company’s bottom line. If you’d like to add a concentration in professional sales to your B.S. in marketing, you can complete nine credit hours of sales-specific courses: MKTG 3151, 3510, and 3580.

  • Understand and communicate basic marketing concepts and the role of marketing within an organization, including the four Ps (product, price, place, promotion) and target markets.
  • Define and implement ethical standards and policies of social responsibility, creating enduring relationships between firms and their clients for the general benefit of society as a whole.

  • Use the marketing research process to define a problem or opportunity, design a research project, collect data, and analyze data to make appropriate and actionable marketing decisions.

Banking and Financing is the act of providing funds for business activities, making purchases or investing. Financial institutions and banks are in the business of financing as they provide capital to businesses, consumers and investors to help them achieve their goals.

As a Banking and Finance major, you will be taking a combination of both elective and required courses that will teach you to:

  • Apply appropriate problem-solving methodologies to the analysis and solution of financial problems
  • Explain the role of financial management in the business firm and in the public sector

Entrepreneurship Concentration

Course Description

The Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship provides the business training needed to launch and grow a successful enterprise.

Students in the bachelor of entrepreneurship program gain knowledge of business planning, financing, marketing, management, information technology and consulting. You’ll learn how to apply this knowledge to new ventures, small enterprises and family businesses.
